Does google assistant driving mode support voice commands for third-party apps?

By comparison, Google Assistant's driving mode is less distracting for the driver, since you can control everything using voice commands. It's also designed with a minimalist user interface that includes basic apps that won't distract the driver. You can activate driving mode in Google Assistant using a voice command. Here's what you need to do.

As long as Google deactivates assistant driving mode, driving mode with the same name will be maintained on Google Maps. This provides Android users with a Google Maps experience optimized for cars. Stay connected easily, do your homework and enjoy your time on the road with the hands-free help of Google Assistant. Whether in an Android Auto-compatible vehicle or just with your phone, Google Assistant is there to help you while you travel.

Unfortunately, Google has replaced the Android Auto app mode with the Google Assistant driving mode in Android 12. While Android Auto, with the same name, is found on the user's Android phone and is simply projected onto the dashboard, an Android automotive vehicle is the Android device with Google's operating system that powers everything from integrated navigation applications, messaging and multimedia streaming to traditional vehicle systems, such as climate controls, comfort and convenience functions, vehicle configuration and more. These screenshots are from October, but the assistant driving mode has changed so little since then that they look identical to the experience you'll find today. Google called it a personalized dashboard, full of recommended destinations, missed calls or texts, and more. On the other hand, you can easily access other applications such as WhatsApp and Google Chrome on your smartphone while the driving mode of the Google Assistant runs in the background.

There is no doubt that Android phones will be compatible, but there is a Google Assistant application that can run on iOS devices, so we will be attentive to compatibility with that platform. The Android Auto application can use the same voice commands, offers the same Google Assistant recommendations and supports the same navigation, messaging and audio streaming applications as the full Android Auto because, of course, it's the same software. If you're not familiar with Google Assistant's driving mode, read on to learn how to use it. The Google Assistant app can be activated in Android Auto, but it doesn't integrate into the user interface more cohesively than Google Assistant's driving mode.

Even if you receive a text message or an incoming call, Google Assistant can read it for you without interrupting the navigation screen. When activated, assisted driving mode fills the screen with a redesigned panel that offers navigation suggestions, appointments and calendar reminders, frequent contacts, links to audio apps and podcasts, and more in a simplified view. Google Maps navigation is shown in full screen once started, with a lower bar that shows audio controls, notifications and quick access to manually activate more directions from the Google Assistant. Not to mention that Google has discontinued Android Auto for phone screens and replaced it with Google Assistant driving mode.

Unfortunately, driving mode is not available in all countries, as the supported regions are still limited. Android Auto is the projection and connectivity technology for Google applications for cars, just like Apple CarPlay or MirrorLink.
