Does google assistant driving mode support music streaming?

You can select your favorite music streaming service to be your default music source when using Google Assistant while browsing. On your Android phone or tablet, say “Hey Google” and open the Assistant settings. Google Assistant helps drivers perform tasks they're already doing while driving. It reduces distractions by providing multimodal experiences that are easy to see and where the voice can be heard.

Driving mode helps make every trip safer, more informed, connected and enjoyable. If you have a data connection, you can easily access streaming applications such as Spotify, Pandora or Google Play with your Android Auto receiver. Ask Google Assistant to play a specific song, skip to the next track, or start a new playlist. If you like podcasts, download the Pocket Casts app to watch the latest episodes from your car or stay connected to the latest news with NPR One.

Android Auto will also notify you when new text appears, allowing you to tap it on the screen to be read aloud or ask Google Assistant to do so. Use Google Assistant to make or receive phone calls asking you to call one of the contacts on your phone. Google had also just announced a revamped user interface for Android Auto, which we've known for about three years. While you can always ask Google Assistant for the latest weather updates, it's even more practical to have it displayed directly on the screen. Android Auto will automatically change the color of the car screen between day and night mode depending on the car's settings.

Instead of creating that renewed user interface for phone screens, Google chose to leave the original in its own silo. While some models require a USB cable to use Android Auto, there are several receivers that allow you to use Android Auto wirelessly if you have a compatible phone. Assisted driving mode is also limited only to Google Maps, where Android Auto for phone screens is at least compatible with Waze (also owned by Google). Perhaps the most important thing about Google Assistant's driving mode compared to Android Auto for phone screens is simply that you can't use it in landscape mode.
